In this section, we will cover the tools, pans, and ingredients you need to make pie crust and pies. We will also cover the different types of pie plates and the materials they are made of as the materials have an impact on how your pies will bake.
If you want to master pie dough from scratch, first you need to learn the science of pie dough to understand how the ingredients and steps impact the texture of the crust. Then we can go over the three ways of assembling the ingredients to make pie crusts.
Making the crust is half the battle and you can literally ruin a pie in the oven if you don’t bake it at the right temperature, on the right oven rack, and for long enough. Find out everything you need to know about baking your pies with info about blind-baking versus par-baking and why we take those extra steps sometimes, but not always.
