I’m an American home baker who runs the YouTube channel about European food culture. Before I was married and had kids, I spent many years traveling and living in different parts of Europe, which is where my interest in gastronomy and the traditions around it really took shape. Now, baking has become my way of traveling again, recreating things I remember eating and discovering new recipes along the way.
In October of 2025, I returned to Europe for the first time in more than a decade and traveled to Budapest and Vienna to film a series while I was there. It was my first visit to Hungary, and while I focused on well-known coffeehouse pastries, I kept noticing the everyday bakes that showed up everywhere. These were the kinds of things people picked up without much thought.
This book is about those recipes. Simple Hungarian bakes you’ll find in bakeries but might just as easily see on a grandmother’s table. They’re practical, unfussy, and suited to home kitchens, and this collection is my way of sharing the foods that felt most rooted in daily Magyar life.
In this book you will:
- Get a feel for Hungarian food culture through simple, everyday bakes
- Bake 9 classic Hungarian cakes, pastries, cookies, and breads
- Learn practical European baking techniques adapted for real home kitchens
- Discover traditional Central European flavors like poppy seed, sour cherry, walnut, & apricot
- Follow clear, reliable recipes with both US and metric measurements
