QM2 is collection of contradictions with an unmovable sense of self. As I post this we’re not out to sea year but the characters have begun to show.

Attentive crew served our beer battered fish & chips in the Golden Lion pub and we slipped into feeling right at home- but with chefs and a room steward.

Cunard has a well deserved reputation as an iconic cruise line that exists in a preference state of limbo between permanently mounted cigarette holders in stateroom bathrooms and Starlink internet.

An unexpected combination of travelers are always onboard starting with the dogs. Yes, pet 🐕. QM2 has a legit staffed kennel. Dogs of all sizes checked in with their owners as we boarded.
I really do love this ship. It’s such a weird combination of people. We boarded with a retired London copper, an Amish couple in full dress, a man wearing a tan trench-coat carrying a leather attache case. and of course a few 20-somethings going back to London after the holidays.
The oceanliner has her elegance filled with posh pensioners but you’ll find more people who have (or do) work for a living than haughty trust funds. Crossing the Atlantic is a slow moving commuter line providing full-board with glitz after 6pm. Jeans, sweats, and backpacks until 6 pm when the lights go down.
