NVIS - How Useful is It?

NVIS - How Useful is It?

Jul 14, 2022

Hey Everybody,

I'm going to release this video Saturday morning. However, I wanted to give you a chance to see it first. Comment if you like as well.

The concept of NVIS communication is nothing new and has been used in military communication for a very long time. In effect, we're used to hearing about HF communication being used to talk across the globe. This technique orients the antenna closer to the ground, essentially using the ground as a reflector and points the signal up to the ionosphere where it is reflected back down to earth in a regional shower. I've had so much fun making this work for me. I've got several videos about building the antenna and how this is all done on battery power.

For most of us, we don't need that. When we need to communicate, we need to communicate regionally. Often times we think that our handheld ham or GMRS radios will do the trick. To cover some distance, you'll need to fall back on a repeater system.

Enjoy and feel free to share.
