Welcome to our PBN Naturals, aka PBN Pearls Page (so named for the mycelium growing like pearls in our culture medium). We are building a worldwide consortium that will specialize in natural therapeutics while bypassing synthetics. Synthetic therapies, as you may know, are new to our planet and they can be inherently toxic. Just take a look at the warnings on any prescription drug and you’ll see dozens of side effects, some serious. In contrast, even the strongest synthetic psychedelics (like LSD) can be only a fraction as toxic as many other common synthetic drugs used in mental health care. Yet psychedelics were banned during most of my long career (from 1970 to 2023) and even today there are legal restrictions on their use and study.

My main interest in creating the path I am choosing for PBN Naturals is to express gratitude for my upbringing, my education at Michigan (where I was introduced to PBN), and my lifelong good luck. Still, I need all the help and support I can get from my colleagues and friends to get this project going and then to hand it over to our grandchildren’s generation and beyond. I believe that with BMC, among like-minded creative friends, colleagues and peers, my ideas are more likely to be spread around the world to other people like us, without exploiting the less fortunate among us who may suffer from the need for mental health care.

After observing the toxic side effects of synthetic drugs during my long diversified career, I have decided to start a new business/industry based on the fast emerging and promising field of natural psilocybin and related psychedelics (PBN) in mental health care. As I no longer seek conventional for-profit funding, I have chosen BMC to spread the word and launch our project. I believe that much misinformation, incorrect information and actual disinformation has been spread over the years, and I want to clear up confusion and rectify these problems in areas of information related to drugs and herbs, the meanings of natural and synthetic, and purities and impurities, which are currently all mixed up in a tangled mess, even with information provided by some reputedly scientific consultants and editorial boards.

I received my PhD from the University of Michigan in 1967, based on my work on “magic mushrooms” - having isolated and named 2 new analogs simultaneously closest to psilocybin and to the neurotransmitter and hormone, serotonin. However, since then, nothing has been done to natural PBN for over 50 years. So, after I rejoined the PBN space 3 years ago, collaborating with incompatible parties, I have now decided not to seek conventional funding to speed up the process. For this reason, I am forming this consortium of likeminded colleagues, peers, friends, companies, and institutes to help one another worldwide to produce natural PBN mycelial products for all those who need them, not just for a few monied elites. Having the same goals, our members will each contribute their fair share of talent, expertise, money (initially as fees or donations), time, and others, commensurate with their own abilities and resources. This will help us accomplish necessary tasks or projects to start our organization, PBN Naturals aka PBN Pearls. I envision our work in 3 phases:

Phase 1 —Education and Information Dissemination (6-12 months). Our members will receive texts relating to the highlights of what I have been disseminating over the past 60 years of my research and writing career (books, newsletters, journal articles and regular online posts on my blog and LinkedIn, all based on my background, training, and career experiences. Most of these deal with the misinformation, confusion, and sometimes deleterious effects of politicization or monetization of the sciences of drugs and supplements (both synthetic and natural), especially as they relate to natural psychedelics (e.g. PBN). Some information can only be found here in BMC.

Phase 2 - Interactions among members (6-24 months, overlapping with Phase 1). These interactions will allow us to find out who may have the facilities and personnel to start producing PBN mycelia (also PBN mushrooms) to be analyzed by members with high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) facilities, so that what are in these natural products are no longer a guessing game. They will bear the HPTLC fingerprints and will be superior to any “shroom” or any synthetic psilocybin so far used in psychotherapy or in research. With synthetic psilocybin, when we have LSD that is up to 200X stronger-acting, would we be able to ever find out if some tablets or capsules of a 20-mg dose of synthetic psilocybin (thus labeled) might not contain psilocybin at all, but 200 ug of LSD in corn starch? What if a chemical in the legally-allowed 2% impurities were very toxic, but its effects would not show up until years later as one of the many common, dreaded diseases, resulting from our ‘sick care’ system, a key part of our very profitable VICIOUS CYCLE? Who would dare to speak out or try to seek the truth and risk losing their jobs or perpetual income?

Phase 3 - Production and analysis by members and by PBN Naturals (3-4 years). Our PBN Pearls may, in a year or two, start building our own production and analytical facilities in partnership with some members that may already have such facilities. I also hope in a few years, we will use our analytical HPTLC facilities to fingerprint commercial herbal supplements in general (which are so labeled) for the benefit of the consuming public, in contrast to the vast majority of products on the market which have not been so analyzed, to the detriment of the health and security of the herbal supplements marketplace.
