Hello folks —
I will be deactivating this account in a few days, and then taking a hiatus from online life, probably for six months. During that hiatus, I won't be posting at micro.blog or anywhere else, so there won't be any newsletters, but posting will eventually resume. (I don't expect to ask again for any financial support for such writing.)
I'm just tired. I don't know that I've ever had a tougher year, and I'm worn out.
The additional income from this site has been really nice — it buys our groceries, as my wife notes — but it has never done more than that, and at this point I would pay to avoid worrying about how to provide enough value to justify people's support for me. And I guess by deactivating the page I am paying for that peace of mind. Which will be especially nice as I have a lot to think about over the next few months.
I'm leaving the site up for a few more days in case anyone who is eligible for a refund wants one. I'm not sure how to do that but I can figure it out.

P.S. Let me be clear: I have never found any of my supporters to demand anything from me. It’s my own (probably unhealthy and perverse) sense of responsibility that keeps me worried that I’m not doing enough. By ending this account I’m shutting that part of me up.
