First up, thank you for taking the time to look at my page and read this.
I began performing on the street over fifteen years ago and still enjoy the spontaneity of busking. It is a real thrill to perform for literally everyone, regardless of wealth, age, race, gender or any other demographic category. I believe it is the most honest form of entertainment, both for performer and audience. As a performer I have to do my best for absolutely everyone who passes by, without judgement, because the next passer-by might really enjoy what I am doing and drop a tip. Experience has taught me not to judge a book by it's cover. And the audience can feel free to choose to engage or not, without any pressure. They can (and do!) provide the artist with valuable, honest, frank feedback immediately, whether it's a tip in the hat or a quiet thumbs up and smile, or telling you exactly what they think you're missing or that they hate it. The value of this for an artist cannot be understated. Sometimes it requires a thick skin and a flexible ego, but these are also very useful things to possess. It is important to realise that one cannot please all the people all the time, in art and in life! So the artist must use their discernment and push towards the things that they truly believe in, to allow themselves to progress and to enjoy the times when that does in fact please almost all the people.
