I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the Tesla car accessory market is booming and we are spoilt with choices and sometimes its difficult to pick the right product if there are too much of them. In this video, I compare three products to protect the Tesla Induction (or Uberturbine) wheels.
For those who recently purchased their Tesla, now is a good time to consider buying these types of product because once you drive off that Tesla from the collection centre, your wheels are exposed to curb rashes. Installing a rim protection system protects your investment from unnecessary scratches.
To help you with your buying decision, I put to the test three popular rim protection products available for the Tesla Model Y right now and summarised my findings here for you. Enjoy reading!

1) EVBASE Rim Protector for 20” Induction or 21” Uberturbine
The Rim Protector from EVBASE received the highest score based on my scoring system with 22 points. The lowest score it received was in the Fixability category but thats not suggesting it wasn’t fixable. Compared to the other products in this review, it just took a minute longer to remove all the segments. Where it shine was how easy it is to install the whole system. And since it comes as one whole piece, there is not one segment that puts the rim protector from coming off the wheel. However, it is not compatible with the “flatty” type of wheel on the Induction wheel.
So what is a flatty you ask? Well you see, there are two types of Induction wheels: Flatty and Pointy. You want Pointy because the Rim Protector is designed to install perfectly on the pointy. But if you have the Flatty, a bit of grinding is involved and a 3M VHB table to make it fit.

2) MAGBAK Rimcase
The Rimcase is a quality product from a reputable company MAGBAK. It is evident from its packaging, the thickness of the product (285 grams) and its precision design - each segment fits perfectly. You don’t have to worry about flatty wheels because its clamping mechanism does not have a tight fit. And this is why it has a 3M adhesive for that extra grip.

3) Aliexpress Wheel Cover (NOT RECOMMENDED)
The Aliexpress Wheel Cover shows good promise at the start. It’s affordable and has a good design. However it fails to deliver its promise because it was just impossible to install. Random segments keep popping out and it didn’t give me confidence it will stay in place while driving at freeway speeds. Maybe having curb rashes or the added adhesive foam tape prevented it from latching properly. Either way, I was unable to install it security in the end.
