The International Impact Book Awards announced the winners of their most recent book competition. Winning the Distinguished Author Award in the Science Fiction category was Native American science fiction novella Pace Face by Utah author W.D. Kilpack III.
Kilpack said, "Seeing the list of past winners, it's incredibly humbling for my name to be added — especially for the second time! It's always amazing to have the value of my work acknowledged, but the International Impact Awards always feels special. It's incredibly gratifying."
Pale Face centers around Hector Whitehorse, a Navajo who never truly belonged. Born on a New Mexico reservation but educated in the white man's world, he found himself caught between two cultures, accepted by neither. Then his isolation became something far more unsettling. After a mysterious close encounter that nearly claims his life, Hector discovers he is trapped between Earth and something beyond it. What he learns threatens everything he thought he knew about reality, his identity, and humanity's place in the universe. As secrets emerge, Hector must face forces that would rather the truth remain hidden. A powerful blend of science fiction, Navajo mysticism, suspense, conspiracy, and unforgettable characters.
The International Impact Book Awards is a prestigious platform that welcomes submissions from self-published authors, traditional publishing houses, and innovative publishers alike. Entrants can be print or e-book format, because the organization seeks to recognize and celebrate "impactful stories that resonate with excellence."
Founder Nim Stant wrote about Pale Face, "This distinction is conferred upon a limited number of authors, leaders, and voices whose work demonstrates genuine, measurable impact on the readers and communities they serve."
