I have always been a writer.
I used to journal a lot as a youngster. I wrote poems, tried my hand at songs, and even attempted a few fiction novels. My writing was so compulsive that I would keep a pad and pen next to my bed to write thoughts down.
I read somewhere, "If you write it online, it's there forever.". This motivated me to start a blog. I wrote a story or two and just never got into it. The passion just wasn't there. I wasn't good at sticking to one theme or 'niche', I wanted to write about whatever popped into my head.
Recently, I found the medium platform.
I wrote my first story and shared it with a Facebook support group for the disease that I have (ankylosing spondylitis). It blew up! I had thousands of views in just a few days. I don't know the definition of going viral. I doubt that it was anywhere close, but it felt something like that, I imagine.
The excitement of seeing those views go up, and gaining those first followers, was like a drug.
I needed more!
I wrote my first story on March, 24th, 2023. A little over a week later, my mom passed somewhat suddenly.
My excitement was, like a fire, smothered by a drenched blanket.
I felt compelled to keep writing. Even if I couldn't broach the subject of my pain, I was trying to stay busy. The words haven't flowed as smoothly as they once did, I start and stop far more often, but I keep writing.
This is where we are today. =)
I hope to keep this journal as a weekly post, an update of sorts, for those interested in taking this journey with me.
I currently have 20 stories on Medium, under six categories, with .40 cents of income generated! Woot!
