Scammed by a Scoundrel?

Scammed by a Scoundrel?

Sep 27, 2026

Hey, Friends! Long story short, I almost got taken for nearly $7,000.

Picture it:

I made a little business plan and decided on the many ways in which I’m trying to sling these words. I signed up for a free grant writing webinar.

The webinar was a single day and was only for a couple of hours. I figured all that I would be really losing was time if it was bad, and if it was good, I’d gain some valuable information. It went like most free webinars. The presenter talked for a while about herself, her downtrodden-to-good fortune scenario, and how she had specific life-changing knowledge.

However, out of the many free webinars I’ve attended, this one actually gave more useful information than what I was used to. It was a pleasant surprise. Fast forward.

The person started advertising for an extended experience with a high fee. Hard pass…maybe.

What really got me was the chat. The audience that was in attendance seemed to be mostly minority and mostly thirsty for knowledge. There were people in the chat saying that this was their last bit of money until payday, and they were asking if anybody could be a blessing and CashApp them $15 to help them be able to pay for the course. Some did.

It was a one-time fee that was less than $50. Just before submitting my information, a voice in my head said, “AHT AHT!” I used a credit card instead of my debit card. Fast forward.

Months after the extended webinar courses, I woke up to a notification from my bank stating that I didn’t have enough money available on my credit card to approve a nearly $7,000 transaction.

😱I beg your bedtime-disrupting pardon?!

The bank was swift and very helpful. Of course, the coach/person/company was no longer accessible on platforms they were previously on. When I was able to contact them, they had no explanation and said they had no idea how it could have happened. Yeah, okay.

Sometimes, it really do be your own people. Sigh.

My question to you, Friends:

Has a little voice ever saved you from something you didn’t know you needed saving from?

Leave a comment here or on one of my social media channels: Facebook, Instagram, X, BlueSky, or LinkedIn. Also, there’s a picture of the rabbit in my gallery.

Let’s see where the conversation takes us. Until next Sunday…
