Relax? What’s that?

Relax? What’s that?

Hey, Friends! I’m not gonna lie. Everything got on my nerves this week. The more things I tried to finish, the more things became undone.

I had homework to do, papers to grade, and a novel to finish. That doesn’t include all of the regular life things I had going on.

The process of writing my first novel has been quite the ordeal. More than once, I asked myself who let me write a whole book after having never written one before. The very thing I loved to do more than anything suddenly felt dreadful. As worry and despair started to set in, a funny thought occurred to me: These people had more faith in me than I did myself.

Realizing how ridiculous this was actually helped me to lock in. Little did I know, my next struggle was right around the corner.

The day after I submitted my novel, I was already wondering what I should work on next. In little to no time, I’d pulled out old drafts, gathered mentor texts, and even grabbed a book from one of my favorite writers for some fun reading.

I started with the fun reading. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it past the second page before falling asleep. Apparently, when I don’t know how to relax, my body takes over and does it for me. I guess I’ve got to intentionally do better.

Friends, my question to you is this: How do you relax after a major accomplishment?

Leave a comment here or on one of my social media channels: Facebook, Instagram, X, BlueSky, or LinkedIn.

Let’s see where the conversation takes us. Until next Sunday…
