Wednesday 2nd September
Vinyl Tap Quiz night, and we lost first place on a tie break question, but a fun night out as ever.
Saturday 5th September
All the cinema tickets at many UK cinemas were reduced all weekend this week to encourage cinema going so I bought tickets for three screenings in a row, Coyote VS Acme, The Death Of Robin Hood and The Incomer, which you can see my reviews of below.
Sunday 6th September
The last S-Werd Open mic to take place at Vinyl Tap on the first Sunday of te month as it is changing to the last Sundays in October. A great event as ever and a chance for me to try out the poems I will be doing later in September at the Crime Writing festival events.
Wednesday 9th September
Quiz Night at Vinyl Tap, and we lost again, but great fun.
Thursday 10th September
This would normally have been the pub Book club night but with a few forewarned absences it has moved forward to next week.
Saturday 12th September
Wigan Diggers, the annual left wing festival of music, poetry and protest, and I was among this year’s performers at a new indoor performance activity. The whole day was great, despite terrible weather early on. By the afternoon, things improved, and a great friend, Eira Short attended too.
Sunday 13th September
Another Vinyl Tap open Mic Sunday, this time run by the Sanch family, with many great musicians and poets, plus myself involved.
Tuesday 16th September
A funeral today, for a great friend, Tarquin Scott who was among my first friends from moving to Preston. A highly talented musician, and son of a famous architect, Tarquin helped run the Spark story telling nights I often took part in in the first few years of living in Preston (I moved here in 2016 from Manchester). Tarquin often came to shows I was participating in, and invited me to arts festivals he ran at his own spacious house. His send off was a beautiful series of personal heartfelt tributes by many fortunate to know him better than I did, and even meeting him when I did, my life is all the better for his part in it. RIP Tarquin.
Wednesday 17th September
My first go at running the Vinyl Tap pub Quiz was well received. Regular quiz question setter Owen McGough indicated that he’d like to play in a quiz for a change so I volunteered to swap places with him. He played on the team I usually join and I set the questions, co-presenting them with Millie Angel, who works at the pub. The quiz was well received and I was told I may get to run it again in future. Big thanks to everyone at the pub for trusting me to take on this task.
Thursday 18th September
Beer & Book Club Meeting – Vinyl Tap. This month we looked at was Megan Lindholm’s Wolf’s Brother, The Book is reviewed by myself here https://arthurpeterchappell.wixsite.com/homepage/post/beer-and-books-book-club-review-megan-lindholm-wolfs-brother Our October choice is True Grit by Charles Portis. Monday 21st September
I had to pay for a forthcoming bus trip-pub crawl by bank transfer in the bank branch. I took the opportunity to drop some finished reads off at a nearby charity shop for other readers too. Back home, I finished reading a horror novel (not destined for charity stores as I have this one signed by the author. The 24th day of each month sees me declare any earnings I make from book sales to the DWP/Tax services. This 24th was no different.
Friday 25th to Sunday 27th September
The First Preston Crime Fiction Festival was magnificent. I have reviewed the events here in full. Wednesday 30th September
I attended a Stoma wearers open Day at the Grasshoppers Rugby Club in Fulwood, which was a great event (my fourth year of attending). With some very good speakers and a chance to talk to several stoma accessory suppliers.
