1. Current Situation in Nepal
On 26 August 2026, a catastrophic flash flood struck northern Nepal and the Nepal–Tibet border region. The disaster is believed to have been triggered by a massive collapse of ice, rock, and debris in the Himalayas, sending a powerful surge of water and mud downstream through river valleys.
Communities in and around Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and areas along the Trishuli River have suffered extensive damage. Homes, roads, bridges, power facilities, and other essential infrastructure have been destroyed or cut off, leaving many communities isolated and making rescue and relief operations extremely difficult.
As of 27 August 2026, more than 160 deaths had been reported across Nepal and the adjoining Tibetan region, while hundreds of people remained missing. The number of casualties is expected to change as search and rescue operations continue. Many families have lost their homes, belongings, livelihoods, and access to essential services.
2. Why Families of Persons with Disabilities Need Targeted Support
Natural disasters do not affect everyone equally. Families that include persons with disabilities often face greater difficulties during emergencies due to mobility limitations, disrupted transportation, inaccessible shelters and relief distribution sites, and the loss of essential medicines or daily necessities.
When homes and livelihoods are damaged by floods, these families may also experience increased financial and caregiving burdens. Without targeted support, they are more likely to be excluded from or face barriers in accessing general emergency relief.
This campaign therefore seeks to provide immediate assistance specifically to flood-affected households that include persons with disabilities, helping them meet their most urgent daily needs and recover with safety and dignity.
3. Emergency Relief Assistance
Flood-affected households that include persons with disabilities will receive essential relief items based on their verified needs.
Assistance may include:
Food and safe drinking water
Blankets, clothing, and temporary shelter materials
Hygiene and sanitation supplies
Essential medicines and basic healthcare supplies
Menstrual hygiene and dignity supplies
Batteries, charging support, and basic communication items
Transportation assistance for evacuation or access to healthcare.
The specific composition and quantity of relief items may be adjusted according to local conditions, household size, and the individual needs of each beneficiary family.
- Target Beneficiaries
The Emergency Relief Fund will exclusively support households that:
Have been directly affected by the floods
Include one or more persons with disabilities.
Priority will be given to families experiencing severe damage to their homes, displacement, loss of essential belongings, or significant difficulty accessing existing relief services.
Beneficiary households will be identified and verified in cooperation with local partner organizations, organizations of persons with disabilities, community representatives, and relevant local authorities.

Flood-affected communities in Nepal, with priority given to severely affected and underserved areas identified through local needs assessments.
