When people hear the word “war,” they often think of soldiers, explosions, tanks, and medics carrying the wounded. War also means broken roads, destroyed bridges, and burned fields. There is constant noise, the heavy thud of incoming fire, relief when it is distant, and worry when it is close. That is the human picture. But in almost every home there are animals too. They are frightened and hurt as well. They also want to live their cat or dog lives, to fall asleep and wake up.
In Ukraine there are places where “tomorrow” is uncertain. Near the active fighting, practically “na nule” (the front line), planning even a few hours ahead is a luxury.
Hope still appears. Igor, from an area near Pokrovsk, knows this. After months without any connection, he managed to post a short note on Instagram. He did not ask for help. He simply wrote that he and his animals were alive and still hoping. Volunteers saw the post, raised funds, and arranged a place for them. But only the military could reach his location. A few weeks earlier, a volunteer delivering aid was killed by a mine, and civilian vehicles were no longer allowed through.
The rescue was carried out by the military police using minefield maps and constant drone support. Igor, his 25 cats, 5 dogs, a chicken, and a goose were evacuated to safety. Several other dogs, puppies, and a cat with kittens were also rescued. Now Igor and all the animals are in a shelter in Fastiv. For the first time in a long while, they can sleep in quiet, eat enough, and receive veterinary care.
This rescue happened because caring people acted. Helping those who cannot care for themselves is real kindness. But good work needs funding. Fuel in this mission was covered by SEOcharity.
