Thanks to Nikon Singapore, I had the opportunity to really test the Z120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S with a pre-production unit.

What I LIKE
AF tracking performance was SUPERB. Tracking accuracy, speed & stickiness was top notch. The lens felt SO SMOOTH while tracking.
Image Quality (IQ) as expected was benchmark standard. Details rendered & retained were top notch even at WIDE OPEN apertures. Subject separation was also superb.
At 2.73kg, it's not light but it' not heavy. Compared to the f-mount FL ED VR version which weighed in 3.25kg, the new Z version was noticeably lighter even though it had a built-in 1.4x Tele-Converter. The lens design optimized the centre of gravity towards the camera body making it easier to hand-hold & handle.
Engaging the build-in TC was easy & AF performance did NOT see any noticeable degradation in AF performance, likewise the IQ with the TC engaged.
The Z120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S lens was super versatile as it could be setup to cover focal length ranges up to 1260mm @f/8 with the appropriate Z camera body. This flexibility allows the photographer to expand the scope of subjects & photography genres.
Bottomline, this was one SPECIAL ZOOM lens that thought it was a PRIME lens.
What I DISLIKE ?
Nothing to dislike really , well maybe the very high price but look at it this way, you are getting multiple lenses for the price.
