Andrew Dearman is a Kaurna Country (Adelaide, South Australia) based artist and writer with a keen interest in the material qualities of old photographs.  As a photographer who uses a hand-made Camara Minutera (box camera) known as the ‘Ugliboi’, Dearman also collects and writes about found family photographs that are displaced from their point of origin.  Having recently retired from teaching Art History courses at three of Adelaide’s key art schools since 2005, Dearman is currently engaged in a writing-based project that explores the intergenerational inheritability of embodied memory of place, using walking, analogue photography, and reflective writing as a method.
