A new emulator significantly increases the selection of games available on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. A new standalone Dolphin emulator will allow you to play practically any GameCube or Wii game on your Xbox system provided you've completed the necessary setup steps. On December 6, 2022, Dolphin Emulator for UWP was released in beta. Since then, it has undergone a few revisions, reaching version 1.02.

Upscaling games to a resolution of up to 1440p is possible using the standalone Dolphin emulator. If you'd prefer, you can also play games in their original resolution. HD texture packs can be used with mods to make games look more contemporary and have higher resolution. Although the emulator also supports a broadband adapter, the value of it depends significantly on the online game you wish to play. For instance, in order to access online play in Mario Kart Double Dash, tunneling software is needed.

The Dolphin emulator has several advantages over alternative solutions, although emulation is not new to the Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, or other consoles. The standalone Dolphin emulator is more simpler to set up and use than RetroArch, as noted by Modern Vintage Gamer (another way to emulate games on the consoles). For Xbox, the standalone Dolphin UWP port offers greater performance.

Enabling Developer Mode on your Xbox console makes installing the emulator the simplest process possible. Additionally, retail mode can be used to set up. To set up your Xbox controller and other system components, you'll need a computer. A USB drive should also be accessible.

Dolphin Emulator for UWP can be used on older Xbox consoles like the Xbox One X, although performance will be reduced significantly when compared to using a Series X or Series S console.
