Headed "Home"

Jun 04, 2024

I just booked tickets to La Paz via Tijuana in late June. I feel better already.

I've been watching ticket prices fluctuate and finally pulled the trigger. And along the way, I found that the 100th anniversary of the Ceasar's Salad is happening in Tijuana this summer. So I'm going to stop and have an Original Ceasar's Salad during my layover. And I might meet with a friend from Mexico City (the one who told me about this historic event!) Watch for a video about the Ceasar's Salad.

I'm also hoping to interview expats living in TJ. Border expats. I think it's different - different than living in "real Mexico" and different than living in the USA. I'd love to know who is attracted to the border zone and what the pros and cons are. And tips for living in this area (beyond SENTRI passes.)

When I'm in La Paz, you can expect at least one happy hour on a Sunday. Or maybe a Sunday brunch.

I'm also looking at a trip later this summer to Oaxaca. Once again involving a layover in TJ.

BTW, this summer I don't plan to use CBX (Cross Border Express.) If you haven't heard of this, the TJ airport has a door on US soil. So you can pass directly through immigration at the airport. The downsides are that it costs around $30 to use this door and this door empties out into the middle of nowhere - so you'll need to rent a car or take an Uber.

My plan is to take the light rail from the San Diego airport to the San Ysidro border crossing. It's a $5-10 cab or Uber ride to the airport on the Mexican side. What can I say, I'm cheap.

Thanks for all the margaritas!
