SELAH: A Biblical Pause for Emotional Eating
Emotional eating isn't always about hunger.
Sometimes we reach for food because we're stressed, overwhelmed, lonely, angry, disappointed, bored, or simply trying to find comfort. And sometimes it happens so automatically that we don't stop long enough to ask ourselves what we actually need.
That's why I created SELAH.
SELAH is a simple biblical framework designed to help you create a pause between what you're feeling and how you respond.
S — Stop before reacting
Give yourself a moment before automatically reaching for food.
E — Examine what is happening within me
What am I feeling? What happened? Am I physically hungry, or am I trying to meet another need?
L — Let go of what I don't need to carry
Release the shame, fear, pressure, resentment, or other emotional weight that doesn't need to follow you into your next decision.
A — Act on what I actually need
Maybe you need food. Maybe you need rest, prayer, movement, comfort, connection, or simply permission to feel what you're feeling.
H — Honesty without condemnation
Be honest about what happened without turning that honesty into shame. You can acknowledge an emotional eating episode, learn from it, and move forward without condemning yourself.
This free SELAH workbook will help you slow down, identify what's happening beneath the urge to eat, and respond more intentionally to what your body, mind, and heart actually need.
SELAH isn't about never emotionally eating again. It's not another set of food rules, and it's not about being perfect.
It's about learning to pause.
Because sometimes the space between feeling and reacting is exactly where a different choice becomes possible.
Your Personal Exodus can begin with one faithful pause.
