Read and listened to Barefoot Investor: Revised and Updated Version

Mar 09, 2026

imageAfter having enough time when I'm idle, waiting for hours for my queue or in very long commutes, finally finished reading while listening via Storyteller[1] the book and audiobook "Barefoot Investor: Revised and Updated Version[2]."

The book is very Australian and sadly, many of the fine print is harder to achieve in the Philippines (mostly the "Super" or the retirement fund and the hospital and healthcare scenarios).

Nevertheless, the book has more or less the Barefoot Steps which in some ways are relatively similar to the Baby Steps of the Total Money Makeover (which is aimed for American audiences)[3].

1. Schedule a monthly Barefoot Date Night - more or less schedule where you are in the finances

2. Set up your buckets - name them "blow" (everyday expenses), "grow" (investments), "mojo" (emergency fund)

3. Domino your debts - start from smallest to biggest

4. Buy your home

5. Increase your "super" / retirement savings to 15%

6. Boost your "mojo" for three months

7. Get the banker off your back

8. Nail your retirement number

9. Leave a legacy

I kind of find it nice that the book also referenced the book, "The Millionaire Next Door"[4] which I read / listened prior. I might reread the book, especially the copy I consumed was an outdated version.

For those who don't want to read / listen to the entire book, you can just watch the summary of the book at the Swedish Investor[5].

Next I'll probably read / listen to is F.U. Money (by Dan Lok) I think.
