keeping game mods working — Icarus mods, and CDUMM for Crimson Desert
Games patch. Mods break. I'm the one who works out why.
I've shipped 53 Icarus mods (43,000+ data entries, 18,800+ recipes), built Daedalus — a mod loader and a self-updating catalogue of 484 mods — and wrote the validator that catches a broken mod before players do.
Right now most of my time goes into CDUMM, the free open-source mod manager for Crimson Desert. The 1.13 patch quietly moved every equipment record inside the item table, so mods kept applying “successfully” and changing nothing. 26 fixes merged so far, 21 more in review, and 2,290 tests standing guard.
Different games, same job: when the ground shifts under a mod, someone has to go find out what moved.
All of it is free and open source — none of it is mine to sell. This page is just for the time.
