Shabbat Gratitude: When Chaos Gives Today Its Shine

Jan 24, 2026

imageGood morning. Happy Shabbat. Let's get this party started.

---

I'm very grateful for where I am right now in life—like, today. Tomorrow might be another hard day, but today is a good day, and that's okay.

But here's the weird part: what made today great was all the bad days I just went through.

I know—in a perfect world, in some enlightened consciousness, we wouldn't need suffering to recognize joy. We wouldn't have to wade through chaos to arrive at Nirvana. But we're not in that perfect situation. We're here, in this broader perspective where purpose means something because there's a reason behind everything—including the pain, the suffering, the difficult moments we endure to reach the good ones.

The last four years were filled with challenges. Had they been easy, today would have just been... another day. Unremarkable. Ehhh.

But because those years were messy—smelly, chaotic, relentless—the struggles gave today its shine.

Making Space for What Matters

Today is Shabbat. So I'm spending part of it in spirituality and part of it in... fun. Not any particular type of fun—just making space for myself. Consciously. Mentally.

Maybe I'll walk around the park. Maybe I'll check out that cool little store I now live across from (still can't believe that). Maybe I'll walk to the library—if it's open. Who knows? I'll find something to do. Or something will find me.

Today, we celebrate where we are.

Tomorrow? Let's not worry about tomorrow. Today is the day we're focusing on.

Why This Matters (And Why I'm Asking for Your Support)

If this reflection resonates with you—if you've ever looked back at your hardest seasons and realized they're what made today possible—I'd be deeply grateful if you'd consider buying me a coffee.

Here's the truth: I'm in a transition. I've just moved into stable housing after years of instability. I'm building a life where I can write authentically about spirituality, survival, and transformation without sanitizing the struggle. Your support helps me:

- Keep creating content that refuses to separate the sacred from the real

- Continue writing "Shattered Seasons"—my book about transformation through difficulty

- Maintain the space to reflect, rest, and resource myself so I can keep showing up for this work

Every coffee you buy literally helps me take that walk in the park. Check out that library. Make space for spirituality and fun on Shabbat. It sustains the practice of celebrating where we are today while building toward tomorrow.

If today's reflection helped you see your own struggles differently—even for a moment—please consider supporting this work.
