RaceTrac

Mar 31, 2025

imageAs I found myself wandering around and decided to walk over to Fowler Avenue. Unsure of how to spend my evening, I eventually found myself at my usual spot - the Racetrack. Despite my best efforts to stay alert, I could feel the exhaustion creeping in. It hadn't just been a long day; it felt like the entire previous day had caught up with me, and I was almost sleepwalking through the night.

The Racetrack was my refuge, yet the restroom I intended to use was closed for cleaning. So I took a seat outside at one of the tables, intending to wait. As my phone battery dwindled, I realized my lack of a charger was becoming a problem. In a split-second decision, I decided to rest my eyes, promising myself it would only be for a moment.

Somewhere between midnight and 1 AM, sleep claimed me without warning. I awoke around 5:13 AM in the crisp morning air, realizing I'd drifted off with my head on my knees, seated in the chair. It took a few moments to gather my bearings. As I slowly regained awareness, it became clear my book bag was missing - everything I had with me was seemingly gone.

However, amidst the initial panic, I recognized a tiny blessing. I still had my key essentials; both my old and new IDs were with me, along with my iPhone and a newly replaced charging block. While the missing bag was a setback, it was a relief to have these vital items still in my possession. Despite the incident, I couldn't help but see this as an unexpected and oddly fortunate outcome.
