A Day in the Life: Searching for Help While Homeless in Tampa

May 17, 2025

imageYesterday was another challenging day in my journey through homelessness. I spent hours reaching out to every possible resource I could find in Tampa - over 20 different organizations and services. Each call ended the same way: waitlists are closed, no available beds, "try again next month," or simply no answer at all.

Right now, I'm writing this from a Dunkin' Donuts that has become my temporary haven. The staff here has been kind, and the wifi keeps me connected to the world while I search for solutions. It's not much, but it's currently my lifeline.

Job Search Journey

The job hunt has been a mixed bag of hope and setbacks. I've had a few phone interviews recently, but several promising leads hit a wall when I mentioned I don't have a car or drive. "We'll let the hiring manager know" has become a familiar phrase – often the last thing I hear before the silence sets in. There's potentially an interview coming up this week, which I'm hopeful about, but nothing solid has materialized yet.

I recently applied for an AI-related job that has me both excited and nervous. It's a remote position training AIs on a per-project basis, which sounds amazing since I love technology. I'm crossing my fingers, though I worry it might be too technical since it seems like a job for nerds. They're strict about not using AI to answer the questions during the application process, which is fair. While I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high, I would absolutely love to get this opportunity - so any prayers or good vibes would be appreciated!

The hardest part isn't just the physical discomfort; it's the constant anxiety and uncertainty. Where will I sleep tonight? What if tomorrow brings the same closed doors? But I'm trying to hold onto hope. Each new day brings new possibilities, and I'm doing everything I can to improve my situation.

How You Can Help

Your support, no matter how small, could make a significant difference in my journey. A coffee's worth of help could mean:

- A meal when I'm hungry

- A contribution toward a night's shelter

- Bus fare to get to job interviews

- Basic necessities I currently can't afford

I'm not giving up. I'm actively pursuing every job opportunity I can while navigating the challenges of job searching without personal transportation. If you're able to help with a contribution, or even just share my story, I would be eternally grateful.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Sometimes just knowing someone out there cares makes all the difference.

*Every cup of coffee helps me get closer to stability. Thank you for your kindness.* ❤️
