What's going on with that giant palace at the top of Montjuïc?
In this episode of A Casual European Guy, I head up from Plaça d'Espanya to explore the Palau Nacional and the monumental area around it.
The story takes us back to the 1929 International Exposition, when Montjuïc was transformed with exhibition halls, pavilions, fountains, gardens and monumental architecture.
We take a look at the Palau Nacional, the Magic Fountain, the cascades, the former exhibition pavilions and some of the buildings that have survived to this day. The Palau Nacional was built as the central palace of the exposition and today houses the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC).
Montjuïc has changed a lot since 1929, but you can still see the influence of that enormous project all over the mountain.
