Great show, Dean. Have been listening on trips recently. Favorite episodes were about the Canoe history, Marquette/Joliet, Poverty Point, Bald Eagles. New Madrid. Interview with Gregg Andrews caught my ear, as I grew up in Quincy, and we drove down the amazing highway 79 to St Louis for family vacations as a kid.
As a river paddler, last few years I have been paddling around upper pool 26 Cuiver Island Conservation Area, and also up the Illinois. Since we visited the Koster Site (near Kampsville IL) as a kid, my interest in this area of Calhoun County has been rekindled. I see there is a museum there that came from this dig in the 70s. caa-archeology.org Possibly worth a visit or show, if the org is still active.
Aah there is just so much out there.
Anyways, my wife and I are taking a 3 day trip to the Driftless in October -Richland Center WI. Will be looking for some easy access vistas, and hopefully an easy scenic paddle. Will be checking back thru your info for ideas.
Thanks and SYOTR
Thanks so much, Dan! Sounds like you've had a great history with the river, and, like me, you know there's always something new to learn or experience. I'm sure you'll love the Driftless Area in fall. One of my early episodes was about fall travel in the Driftless Area, a discussion I had with Reggie McLeod, the editor of Big River Magazine. When you get to Wisconsin, Wyalusing State Park near Prairie du Chien has a signed canoe route through the backwaters; that might be worth checking out. And the views across the river from Pike's Peak State Park in Iowa are easy to get to and fantastic. Have fun and SYOTR!

Hello Dean,
I am currently listening to the Cafe Connections episode so this seems like the right time to support your coffee habit! Enjoy! The recent two part episode with General Galloway regarding ongoing flood mitigation challenges was a great interview. I am looking forward to more podcasts. :) Stephanie.
