a view may be wrong despite being the most rational conclusion to draw from the current state of scientific opinion, as may appear when our empirical understanding advances.
As a matter of fact, I think that biology has progressed to a point where its basic outlines are sufficiently secure to provide the grounding for a compelling biological metaphysics.
A metaphysics that is grounded in science, however, must share the insecurity of its foundations.
And as limited beings in a world of almost limitless complexity this is a predicament that we should learn to live with.
