Gardening Successes

🟢 Pull 'em When You See 'em!

Annual weeds are so teeny tiny when they germinate and they take about two seconds to pull. That same weed a few weeks later requires some kind of little shovel, maybe a pair of gloves, a lot of effort.

Honestly, I don't know anything in my life that is as high leverage as stopping for two seconds to pull up simple annual weeds. Nothing comes close.

🟢 Summer Preparation

Instead of cookies: The garden is baking in summer sunshine. Here where I live, we’re having one of the hottest and driest summers in memory. Fields that are usually lush and green are yellow and withered and let’s not even talk about the lawn. Our plants are thirsty. If we want the garden to survive we’re going to need to do some serious watering.

However, with the heat comes public notices on reducing water usage. That brings into question how we vegetable gardeners can keep our gardens watered while trying our best to minimize turning on the tap. Here are top proven water-saving tips for the vegetable garden.

Chickens: Our Feathered Friends

🟢 Egg-cellent Year!

If you've had chickens for any length of time then you know their egg production has peaks and valleys.

While some of those low times can make you feel like you'll never get another fresh egg again, the high production times can leave with more eggs than you've ever seen before!.

🟢 Chicken Care

If you are planning or have just started with your own coop, you might be concerned about what happens if you need to leave home for a day or two.

Leaving enough feed out to last overnight is easy, but you might wonder what to do about water while you’re away.

DIY Projects: Crafting The Homestead

🟢 How to create a dog house?

Regardless of the weather: be it rain, snow, or harsh sunlight - a well-built dog house safeguards your pet from the elements.

This protection is vital in preventing health issues linked to extreme temperatures, such as hypothermia in winter and overheating in summer.
