Tiger Woods withdraws from the tournament

‘Golf Emperor’ Tiger Woods (USA) withdrew from his return match after 10 months due to ‘cold symptoms’.

Woods finished the 6th hole and took a tee shot on the 7th hole in the second round of the PGA Tour's Genesis Invitational held at Riviera Country Club (par 71) in Palisades, California on the 17th (Korean time) and returned to the clubhouse on a cart.

An ambulance was dispatched after Woods entered the clubhouse, but returned without picking up the patient.

The reason for his withdrawal was unknown, raising the curiosity of on-site reporters, but Woods' friend and business partner Rob McNamara announced, "Woods withdrew from the competition due to cold symptoms."

McNamara added, "Woods had a mild fever, but was fine when warming up. However, as the game began, his condition worsened to the point where he felt fatigued."

After withdrawing from the Masters tournament in April last year, Woods underwent ankle surgery and has been preparing to return.

Woods confessed that he experienced back spasms starting from the 16th hole in the first round the previous day, and on the 18th hole, he suffered a shank (a ball hitting the hosel area that connects the golf club face and shaft), which is rare for professional players.

Woods, who finished the first round with a 1-over-par score of 72, lost one stroke through the 6th hole of the second round with a birdie and two bogeys.

Woods placed his tee shot on the fairway on the 7th hole, but informed the match committee of his intention to withdraw. 19가이드03
