Why Am I Here?

Why Am I Here?

Jan 03, 2026

imageI’ve been thinking about this more than I expected.

Not in terms of growth, reach, or subscribers — but in terms of attention.
Where it goes. What it does to my work. What it quietly takes away.

I didn’t return to analog photography to produce content.
I returned to slow down, to notice, to see again — one frame at a time.

And yet, here I am, sharing that work publicly.

That contradiction is real.

Social platforms are distracting by design. They reward speed, repetition, certainty. They nudge you toward optimization — titles, thumbnails, cadence, click bait — and away from silence, ambiguity, and pause. None of that aligns naturally with how I work, or why I work.

So, the question comes up inevitably:

Should I quit?

The honest answer is: not yet.

Because feedback matters. Not metrics — feedback.
Thoughtful comments. Quiet resonance. The occasional sentence that reflects something back to me I hadn’t fully seen myself. That kind of exchange helps the work mature. It sharpens intent. It keeps me honest.

What doesn’t help is letting a platform decide what counts as success.

So, for 2026, I’m drawing a clearer line:

  • I’m not here to chase trends.

  • I’m not here to increase output to satisfy an algorithm.

  • I’m not here to turn a slow, reflective practice into a performance.

Silence between posts is not failure.
Low numbers are not a verdict.
And stepping back is not quitting.

If sharing begins to interfere with how I see, I’ll step away.
If it supports the work — quietly, respectfully — I’ll stay.

The work comes first.
The platform is optional.

If you’re here because you enjoy slowing down too, that’s enough.

Thank you for being here.
Happy New Year!
