Sunshine Skies fall 2025 update

Oct 15, 2025

Thank you for supporting SunshineSkies.com through Buy Me A Coffee! The mission to preserve the aviation history of the southeastern USA continues, and the website has been updated almost daily this fall. Recent additions have focused on little-known commuter airlines of Florida and Georgia, with multiple new webpages and recently acquired photos of airlines already featured on the site. There are currently profiles of 99 commuter, regional and intra-state airlines that flew the skies of the Sunshine and Peach states and nearly 2 dozen more individual histories are in the works. A recent highlight is this great photo of Argonaut Airways DC-3 N142A at Miami circa 1963. (This aircraft is now the "Space Shuttle Cafe" food truck!)

The other main focus of SunshineSkies.com is to document the histories of commercial airports across Florida and Georgia, and I continue to accumulate material for future articles on Key West, Ocean Reef Club, Naples, and others. Here's a great photo from an upcoming history of Key West International Airport in the 1970s showing Air Sunshine's DC-3 N75KW in the bright Florida Keys sunshine.

The detailed history of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport continues to be the most popular section of the website and to that end, there are several new pages and nearly a hundred additional photos on the way. Most of these will focus on the airport during the 1980s and 1990s including this late '90s photo of a classic Delta L-1011-500 with the former international concourse E in the background.

I'll also be adding a much requested section on cargo airlines at ATL during the 1970s-1990s. Many of these companies were known for flying rare and antique beasts of yesteryear. Here's a great example, Air Express International's 1963-vintage Canadair CL-44 N122AE on Atlanta's north cargo ramp in October 1983.

Thanks again for supporting Sunshine Skies. Your donations have helped pay hosting and domain costs for the website, research costs, and have also gone towards acquiring much of the new material that is regularly added to the site.

sincerely,

David Henderson
