Welcome!

Welcome!

Feb 23, 2022

Hello everybody! My name is Alex (she/her). I am a 35-year-old, JRPG-playing, sci-fi-reading, cow-collecting Canadian who became obsessed with crocheting last year. I was inspired to take up the hobby because of a few books about cute food amigurumi patterns.

For those of you who don't know what an amigurumi is, I'll save you the trip to Wikipedia (you're welcome) :

Amigurumi (Japanese: 編みぐるみ, lit. "crocheted or knitted stuffed toy") is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small, stuffed yarn creatures. The word is a compound of the Japanese words 編みami, meaning "crocheted or knitted", and 包みkurumi, literally "wrapping", as in 縫い包みnuigurumi "(sewn) stuffed doll".[1]

I have never knitted or crocheted before in my life, but I knew that I wanted to have all of these cuties decorating my home. I also had a lot of time on my hands, so I had nothing to lose by trying to learn how to make them. I went to the nearest Michael's, bought the cheapest yarn and crochet hooks, and found some videos/articles to begin teaching myself.

After a few frustrating weeks, I finally got a hang of it. I upgraded to better quality materials, decided to start an Etsy store, and here I am. 10 months, 55 sales, and 3 of my own patterns later, I chose to create a blog. Mostly for my own amusement... and to feel like I'm 16 again. Whatever my reasons, hopefully some people can find this entertaining or helpful or just silly fun.

I plan on posting about tips and tricks that I have discovered, some free patterns, and info about new items in my shop. Also cat pics. Lots of cat pics.
