Embracing Unchartered Territories

Embracing Unchartered Territories

May 31, 2022

imageHas anyone of you ever watched Dora The Explorer as kids? have you ever thought about how she is always smiling and not even worried even if they don't know the way? That's who I strive to be. And probably it's beneficial for you too.

As humans, we know how to adapt. Much like animals migrating from one place to another... they adapt to specific environments, we're just like that too. This is why we have evolved and changed throughout history. Some of us prefer cold places. Some of us like hot areas. Some of us are forced to do something we aren't comfortable doing but we still do it anyway. And that's one of the biggest adaptations humans need to address.

I've been feeling so lost at work recently. I really don't know what I'm doing anymore. Some might say I'm being too picky. But honestly, I studied Multi-Media arts for 4 years just so I won't be put in a position like this. I hate numbers. I hate analyzing data. But here I am. Looking at 2 things I hate looking at. Very inconvenient on my end. But a part of me likes the challenge too. It's cool to have plans and all that. But to me whenever I plan something it always doesn't pan out the way I planned it to be. And it feels like I'm being limited. Being spontaneous looks chaotic, but it keeps me alive.

If there's one thing I learned from my recent solo travel... it's that I'd rather have inconvenience rather than have no experience. It's going to be hard. You don't adapt overnight. When you're faced with this kind of situation where you're entering unchartered territory, it's always better to be like Dora. You smile at the face of uncertainty.

Unless you step out of that comfort zone, nothing much is going to happen to you. I remember a scene in Finding Nemo... Marlin was talking to Nemo and said "Daddy's got you, Daddy's not going to let anything happen to you" and Dory replied "Huh, that's weird... if you're not gonna let anything happen to him, then what will ever happen to him?" WHICH MAKES TOTAL SENSE. If you always choose your comfort zone, then what's ever gonna happen? It'll just be the same old thing every single day. That's why some people say "it's just a routine", "I'm bored", "why isn't anything new happening" or "Same old, same old". Although, there are some unchartered territories that you shouldn't mess with. Some territories feel dangerous. Some territories feel unstable. You have to be able to feel where you're standing. If you think it's detrimental to you or to your mental health then choose to move out of that comfort zone. But if you think you're in a great place, and you're contented with it... then who am I to tell you what to do? Learn how to be brave and take that next step towards improving yourself. That's the main goal. Keep your peace, and stay improving. If you set yourself to have no expectations, then you'll be surprised how much less you'll feel disappointed towards yourself or the results. Thus, growth. Now. Let's go back.

Have you ever watched Dora the Explorer as a kid? Let's try it now that we're older and grown, shall we?

DORA: DO YOU KNOW WHERE WE'RE GOING?
YOU: NO! BUT I AM EXCITED!
DORA: GOOD THAT JUST MEANS NO MATTER WHERE WE'RE HEADING, YOU'LL LEARN TO ADAPT!

This feels a bit messy but I said what I said. Here's something to summarize it:

Learn to embrace that new territory. It may be something you've never tried before. But it's one step closer to your next chapter in life. You can't stay in the same chapter forever. You don't live once. You live every day. Do what it takes to make your every day feel new. The world isn't going to adjust for you, honey. It's okay to feel lost, but the more you embrace it, the less you feel lost. Keep that fire burning, young one!
