"Getting to know stage" "I want to get to know you"
We usually hear this phrase on relationships or dating. But to me the best situation we can use this is for ourselves. You grow up wanting to know who you are, what you want to do in life or what's your purpose and direction in life. And that dilemma goes on for so long that you just tend to forget who you are in the process.
I'm here today writing this piece to tell you that it's not an easy thing to do, but it's possible. Don't try to please people and change yourself to fit a certain standard that doesn't really suit who you really are. Spend some time with yourself and really get to know who you are. Your likes, your dislikes, your love language, the coping mechanisms that work, your comfort and go-to food when you're down, your go-to movie on each type of emotion that you feel, and so much more.
Before you get to know other people, don't forget yourself. What are you going to offer to them if you yourself do not know what makes you You. You can't give someone something if you don't have it. And unless you become confident in who you truly are - no filter, no hiding, no masks - then you're not going to have a very successful relationship with a lot of people. All secrets will come out eventually. Either they'll receive it wrongly, or not. Totally depends on them but wouldn't it be better to live comfortably knowing everybody you get to meet know who you really are?
Recently, I have been losing sight of who I am. I got overwhelmed by work, passion, money, and in general... I just felt really lost. I got tired. But, the only thing that was consistent for me was always finding a time for myself. And that helped me to get to know myself better and how to handle these types of feelings without even being co-dependent on people to give you comfort. It's okay to ask for help, but if you don't really do anything about the help they offered, then it's no use. It always boils down to you and your will to move.
You are worth more than what this world sets you to be. You can always achieve great heights, as long as you know yourself and how you can take advantage of your strengths and minimize your mistakes because you know where your weaknesses are. That's getting to know yourself.
Do you know who you are? Try looking at the mirror and see for yourself.
