Art Prize time

Art Prize time

Mar 16, 2024

It's Art Prize time again in our little town, and I will be entering 2 acrylic Paintings on canvas. I put a ridiculous price on my pieces, but I mainly just wanted to share my 2 newest artworks for the year.

The first one being a Pink Cockatoo (formally known as a Major Mitchell cockatoo) Due to cultural reasons it had a name change overhaul. I chose this cockatoo as its one of my favourite rare birds that I would occasionally spot in remote areas. It is often regarded as a desert or arid bird of Australia. So seeing breeding pairs that would "move in" and stay, was always an exciting time. They are in much smaller numbers than the more popular, Galah (pink/grey cockatoo) or the little corellas found in the same regions. Those last 2 species are often in such large numbers that they have become a "pest" species in many areas.

My next painting is of a playful young foal. That is titled Spring Joy. While I don't have a lot of information to share why I chose this image, except that I like painting horses occasionally and I was drawn to the idea of this playful scene.

So I will be packing these 2 up and delivering them to the local art centre, where these will be later taken to the local town hall for our annual Art Prize and Art community festival which ties in with Easter activities. From the 29th of March to the 1st of April.

There will be many talented people displaying their art, and it will range from drawings to paintings to other forms such as photography and sculpture. I'm anxious and excited to see them all. Even if I don't get a prize or a sale I'll still enjoy viewing other people's creativity.
