ETF Portfolio Delivers $9000 in Gains for $5

Feb 17, 2026

imageThis market is showing signs of uncertainty. On the surface, the indexes are struggling, while the market’s breadth as measured by the New York Stock Exchange Advance Decline line (NYAD) is holding up better.

That’s a better setup that if both the indexes and NYAD were falling together.  But it does tend to dampen gains, even in well setup portfolios, such as ours.

Our primary goal currently is to manage our portfolio in order to preserve profits. Hopefully, we won't get stopped out of any positions as they adjust to the market.

The current ETFs in the portfolio are allocated to leading sectors, which should resume their leadership once the market stabilizes. Ideally, we'd like to add to current holdings on weakness (successful tests of the 20-day moving average).

What we're doing

Over the past several months, I’ve been adding ETFs which should function well in an environment where liquidity in the real economy boosts earnings in companies that function in the real economy – homebuilders, healthcare, financials, materials, value oriented equities and key technology such as semiconductors.

Yet, given the uncertainty of the moment, I suggest adding to positions in small lots, if at all, while preferring to manage existing positions to preserve profits.  As a general rule, you can use successful tests of the 20-day moving average as price points to add to positions.

See the portfolio below for details.

Market Update

The S&P 500 (SPX) is losing ground having failed to hold at the key trading band between 6850 and 7000.  A move above 7000 would be a very positive development.

imageThe New York Stock Exchange Advance Decline line (NYAD) continues to outperform the indexes.  Support is at the 20 and 50-day moving averages.

Bond yields have fallen aggressively lately.  The U.S. Ten Year Note yield (TNX) is testing the 4% support level.  Major resistance is still at  4.2% -  4.3%.

Here's How to Turn $5 into $9000.

Are you happy with the return on your retirement accounts lately?

Have you noticed that there aren’t that many subscription services that deliver consistently year over year?

And when was the last time you paid $5 and watched that small sum turn into $9000?

If you’re interested in the answer to the above questions, stick with me for the next few minutes.

A Walk Down Memory Lane

First, I’d like to thank all members, active followers and supporters of all my services for your interest and support. This is a post about a truly stealthy service I provide which features Sector ETFs.

How I started in the Business and Why ETFs are Natural for Me

Let’s take a walk down Memory Lane.

I published my first newsletter, “The Wall Street Detective,” in 1990. I wrote it on a slower than molasses and clunky (by today’s standards) PC with a big bulky monitor and took it to a printer for production. Then I had to take it to the post office and pay up for postage so it could be delivered to my subscribers every three weeks.

I don’t miss the production and mailing hassle, but I missed the simplicity of the investment focus of that old rag; mutual funds.

Flashing Forward

That’s how I got my stripes, by providing timely mutual fund switching recommendations. Over time, I’ve expanded my services to stocks and options with different products for different investors with independent tastes and time frames. I’ve written nearly 15 books, and I’ve run services for big publication companies like Investing Daily.

But, over the years, no matter what I do, I like to keep it simple. And the beauty of mutual funds is that they let you participate in the market trend without being in a big hurry. Sure times have changed, and many investors look to buy and sell their holdings without waiting until the end of the day.

That’s why I designed the Sector Selector around ETFs, which offer a relaxed approach to investing similar to mutual funds, but also provide the flexibility of buying and selling during the trading day, similar to stocks.

The Answer to Your Retirement Needs

If you’re running a business or working one or more jobs, it’s hard to keep up with the markets. But you also know that you will have to fund your retirement and that sometimes, you wish you could make more money when the markets are rising due to some sort of major trend.

I’ve got the answer.

The Sector Selector is designed for investors who self-manage their retirement, either through a self-directed IRA or a 401 (K) plan that offers ETFs.

The ETFs in the Sector Selector are primarily sector ETFs. These concentrated vehicles let you profit from long standing trends in particular industry groups; for example, financial and technology stocks. That means that you can participate in the gains for major companies like Nvidia (NVDA), Apple (AAPL), Alphabet (GOOGL), Meta (META), Chevron-Texaco (CVX) or JP Morgan (CVX) without having to spend time researching them and for a lot less money than if you bought individual shares.

Low Maintenance. High Returns.

Sure, some investors think that ETF’s aren’t that exciting. Unless, of course, you take a close look at the gains that a well-positioned ETF anchored portfolio, such as the one here, at the Stock Selector. As you can see by the results below, you can make some serious money, for your retirement plan by trading ETFs.

These investments are especially useful in self-directed IRAs and those 401 (k) plans which allow them to be used.

What’s especially convenient is that you can buy them and hold them as long as the trend remains in place, which can be months to years. In other words, ETFs are low maintenance high profit investments.

Here’s What You’ve Been Missing.
