A Quick Update to the Paperback Book

A Quick Update to the Paperback Book

Dec 02, 2021

So, I spent the better part of yesterday working on A Freelancer's Tale. I wanted to have the paperback ready before Christmas as I wanted to use it as a present for a few people. Unfortunately, I've hit a bit of a snag.

It is quite a bit more involved than just cranking out the eBook.

For one thing, the image needs to be 300 dpi. Unless I do the cover in Photoshop, I'm probably going to have to use Amazon's Cover Creator...which is incredibly limited. I don't think I can use Canva for 300 dpi images unless I upgrade.

Another issue is that I have to format the book for 6" x 9" print. This means reworking the font sizes and other elements I want in the book.

At first, I was a bit worried. According to Amazon's upload page, the book needed to be DOC, RTF, or PDF file type. But, I uploaded the Kindle Create version and the system said it was successful. And from what I've read, the Kindle Create file is supposed to be used as a print file type.

So, I'm crossing my fingers that I can just use that file instead. I'll still have to test a few things out, but if that's the case, then all I have to worry about is the cover.

The problem I'm having is that I wanted the cover of the paperback to look like the eBook. It's part of that OCD issue I have of making everything symmetrical.

The bottom line is that it's taking a bit longer than anticipated to finalize the paperback. But, this is good. At least I'm figuring all of this out now and will be better prepared for when I publish Kingmaker in February. Plus, I'm working on a checklist for KDP to publish on WriterSanctuary.

It's gonna be a fun couple of weeks. Wish me luck!
