Browser freezes and crashes on V2.7.x

Dec 19, 2025

Hi Everyone,

Sometimes, tiny bugs slip through the cracks and may cause very annoying scenario's. I've been working almost full time on this plugin, going through each and every suggestion, feedback, comments, reviews, critique and more.

While updating to 2.7.XX, I accidentally introduced a new bug for some users that may cause browser crashes. It happens usually on Chrome, but I've heard some FireFox users have this issue as well.

Firstly, I'd like to apologize if this has happened to you. I rolled out a fix but it can take several days to get reviewed and published to both extension stores.

Secondly, I'd like to let you know that I am here to help if you are stuck with a freezing browser or if the browser keeps crashing, even though you might have uninstalled the plugin. This is due to the browser caching and local storage trying to reopen already downloaded songs from the local storage. This will happen even without the plugin being installed.

This shouldn't be the case so I built a more robust way that clears all the RAM after every successful song download and only saves kilobytes (instead of megabytes) of data to make sure you can continue downloading where you left it or continue downloading without downloading duplicates. This fix also makes sure when you reload or restart the browser, it will not try to open up all the loaded songs from local storage, which is causing some crashes now.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you need help. For starters, you can do a couple of things:

The easiest way: Simply reinstall the browser. This might be annoying, but it will fix the issue the easiest way.

The second method: Clear your \AppData\Local\Google\Chrome folder -> It basically resets your browser.

For MacOS: To clear app data on macOS (similar to Windows' AppData), you primarily target the hidden

~/Library folder in Finder (press Cmd+Shift+G, then type ~/Library) to remove specific app caches (~/Library/Caches), preferences (~/Library/Preferences), or support files (~/Library/Application Support) by dragging folders to Trash, but use caution and consider third-party cleaners for safety. You need to look for Chrome folders and delete the files inside.

For Windows: Open Run (Win + R) and type %appdata% to open the Roaming folder.

  • Navigate to C:\Users\\AppData\ and its subfolders (Local, LocalLow, Roaming). Go to Local and go to the Chrome Folder. Remove everything inside.

  • Remember: Be careful not to remove active application data unless you know what you're doing, as this can reset settings or remove saves.
