Why I Created the Pattern
With summer around the corner and temperatures warming, I thought you would enjoy a quick, fun project, that's easy to take with you and doesn't make you hot while you're crocheting it, like a blanket would. (Working on a cozy winter blanket doesn't feel so "cozy" in the heat.)
I also wanted to create something interesting, but easy for new beginners. This bookmark checks all those boxes. It uses just a bit of cotton yarn- so it's super easy to carry, and cool to work with. You'll want to crochet 1 in every color, so use it as an excuse to buy more yarn😉 OR get Bonus Points for using up your yarn scraps!
About The Simple Pattern
You're going to love crocheting the texture on these bookmarks! You don't need to learn any complicated stitches to crochet it. You'll use basic stitches and I'll walk you through all the steps. We'll take it slow, and keep it simple. As always.
I used Lily Sugar n' Cream cotton yarn for these bookmarks because I loved the way it felt and brought out the texture of the pattern, but feel free to use any level 3 or 4 weight yarn that you like. I think the bookmark looks best in cotton, but I also LOVE it in Caron Simply Soft, which is an acrylic with a sheen. Keep in mind, the thicker the yarn the thicker the bookmark.
What Can You Do with this Bookmark?
Bookmarks make really great gifts for readers or booklovers. And personalized bookmarks or handmade bookmarks are just that much more special. If you have any booklovers in your life, crochet a few in their favorite colors and gift them a set! They'd make adorable stocking stuffers when the holidays come around! Or if you sell your finished items, use them for markets or to sell online. These crochet up so quickly and you can get several from 1 skein of yarn, so they're a very economical market item.
