Wise OG is obviously a fictional character. When I revealed that I created him, viewers wanted to know why. Thie answer to that question is two-fold. First, Black men face systemic challenges in education, health, wealth, and incarceration.
These difficulties are not just systemic either. We Black men struggle with personal issues as well. Egotism. Quick tempers. Combative and competitive spirits. Low self-esteem and self-hatred.
When you examine the statistics, it's difficult not to believe that Black men have been and are targeted for persecution, exploitation and/or elimination. While some of you reading this article look upon this statement with skepticism, understand that Black men:
are 6% of the population but 32% of the people in prison.
have the shortest lifespan of any group of people in the country.
earn less money and face greater unemployment than any group in this country
commit suicide at rates four times higher than that of Black women, especially for those ages 20-24
increasingly report feeling lonely, misunderstood, and socially isolated from people that love them.
Rushing to overly-simplistic conclusions is never helpful. We know these challenges have multiple societal factors. But let's be clear. Part of what we’re seeing is the consequence of absent fathers and a severe shortage of mature and reliable mentors. Social Media "influencers" and celebrity culture have stepped in to raise our sons. They are being fed stereotypes of manhood, that equate masculinity with sexual exploitation, material vanity, arrogance, selfishness and reckless behavior.
The problem is not a lack of intelligence. It is a lack of structured guidance. Our young men do not need more critics or labels; they need accurate information, guidance, and correction to kelp them navigate this world.
My background
Long before YouTube existed, I've been serving and advocating for the Black community for the past 40 + years. I've done this as a Africana Studies student and teacher, a community organizer and activist, and an author.
I realized we needed a classroom and meeting place without walls , a platform capable of reaching thousands, even millions of men at low or no cost all over the world. So I turned to the powerful platform of YouTube and created The Real Wise OG to be the avatar for my messages.
I chose an avatar to be the face of this channel. I didn't want people to get caught up in me or my personality. Wise OG is ageless, timeless, and he doesn't represent one individual's ego. And while I write his scripts and choose his topics, Wise OG symbolizes the collective wisdom of great Black men in the form of elders, fathers, creatives, teachers, coaches, and historical community leaders that exist everywhere Black people exist.

YouTube has tons of male empowerment channels, and I don't want this channel to be misunderstood or misrepresented.
We do not promote trendy topics or celebrity gossip.
We don’t teach brothers how to manipulate or deceive women.
We love and respect Black women and view them as our partners, not our enemies.
We do not promote so-called "alpha male" or "manosphere" culture.
We do not encourage men to be self-absorbed and dettached from their communities
The Mission of the Channel
The mission of The Real Wise OG YouTube channel is to help Black men build discipline, character, leadership, responsibility, wisdom, and purpose. We teach a Manhood Code based on important principles.
Our target is not motivation, but personal transformation—a permanent shift in how a man views himself, processes information, makes decisions, and executes his daily duties.
Therefore, the Wise OG avatar, channel, books, coaching and materials are part of a larger MOVEMENT to organize and empower Black men. This platform is more than a digital media channel. It is the infrastructure for a coordinated movement.
We are utilizing The Wise OG Manhood Development System to rebuild the community from the ground up, starting with the individual.
