"Congrats brother! I'm excited for you. But… I can't believe it either. What was she thinking, strapping herself to an old man like you? Sure you can handle her?"
"Whatever. You're just jealous that an old man like me has a beautiful young fiance and your deepest relationship is with a bunch of ewes."
"Ouch. That hurt man. That really hurt…"
The two men practically fell on top of each other as they cracked up laughing and embracing.
"I propose a toast. To Seph, the kindest man a girl could hope to find, and the finest friend a man could hope for. May he be blessed with a prosperous career, a long life, and a marriage filled with peace and joy."
"To Seph!" the rest of the rabble gathered in the old tavern thundered.
They raised their cups and drank, scarlet liquid spilling out of their mouths and trickling down their full beards, intermingling with the sawdust and dirt that had already taken up residence upon their faces.
Seph emptied his cup with a smile that spanned his cheeks. He set the depleted vessel on the table and slapped his companion on the back.
"I truly am a blessed man, Avi. Blessed indeed."
