Peer support worker, Tool Maker, Dad
I'm Will Hannam. I'm a trained peer support worker in Burnaby, British Columbia, and
everything here comes out of lived experience rather than a clinic.
A workplace injury in 2022 ended my trade. Three surgeries, four years of
rehabilitation and permanent disability followed, along with the identity loss that
comes with losing the work you did. What I learned getting through that — along with
adoption and time in care, homelessness, entering the workforce at fifteen, and my own
mental health recovery — is what I now do alongside other people. In 2026 I completed
sixteen credentials in peer support practice, pain science, mental health and substance
use, including British Columbia's Provincial Peer Support Worker Training Curriculum
through PeerConnect BC and BCcampus. I am not a clinician and hold no clinical title.
What I offer is psychoeducation and coping skills, built to sit alongside professional
care rather than replace it.
Equipped With Agency — equippedwithagency.ca — is the framework: a book and workbook,
seventeen chapters, fifty-five worksheets, protocol cards, and a seventeen-session
facilitated curriculum for emotional regulation and self-management.
Shoulder the Bill: I Only Need the Next Step is the companion. Everything you do is
paid for out of one account, and almost nothing is charged at the moment you do it —
that's the idea it runs on, and thirteen short numbered sequences you can run when you
cannot think straight: panic, shutdown, anger, grief, shame, the day that has gone
wrong by nine. Every chapter also carries the words to say to somebody else who is in
it, because most people reading it are holding someone as well as themselves.
I write fiction too. Enter the Fae is a middle grade series; book one is Don't Say
Thank You.
And I build Hearth, a narration studio that turns a manuscript into an audiobook
entirely on your own computer — no subscription, no cloud, nothing uploaded. It's a
one-time purchase in my shop. I built it because I needed my own books in audio and wasn't going to pay by
the word, and because anyone who writes should be able to hear their work read aloud in
a voice they own and can sell.
None of this is therapy, diagnosis or treatment.
If any of it has been useful to you, a coffee keeps the writing going.
