Choose your adventures! It's the Victoria Day weekend, where we can Ski, Snowboard, hit the Bike Park, and even have a late tee-off. What a fantastic way to close the snow season and bring in the summer activities.
Snow
This is a quick update to inform you that the WBOPS operational updates have now ended on WP and the Peak Live app. You can still get the latest information from Twitter/X. The API billing cycle ended this week.
These updates, which included the parking information and alpine lift updates from WB, were a huge success. I'll bring them back next winter season. Since the API charges are very high, I'll pay for them over the key winter months.
I expect the Blackcomb temps and cams to be offline during the new Jersey Cream 6-pack chair installation. If the data is available during the primary sightseeing season, I'll add them back to the site and app.
Bike
Congrats to WB on opening the Bike Park with the new Fitz chairs! It's nice to see the Bike and Snow seasons overlap.
I will add the Bike Park content to WP and the Peak Live app after the Victoria Day weekend once I've tested the data and updates from the WMBP crew.
I'm also moving servers after the long weekend to keep costs down over the summer. I used AWS servers in the winter after we ran into bandwidth issues. These are very expensive servers to operate for the project, but they helped keep the site and app services up for those big snow storms at the end of February and into March. There will be some downtime after the long weekend while the servers are moved and the SSL certificates are issued to the new location.
Thanks
After a slow start to the season, we finally got the big powder dumps in the later portion, which gave us enough snow to ski and ride until the end of the season. I sincerely hope you all had a good season, and I wanted to thank you for supporting the project. Your support completely fuels the app and site. It also inspires me to keep the project going and develop new ideas. I've been thinking about a couple of new features for next season. Fingers crossed, I'll be able to incorporate them in. Enjoy your spring and summer! I hope to see some of you around the village or on the mountain. Best wishes and good health.
