Sherry Casks and Familiar Tongue-Twisters

Sep 27, 2026

I have been noticing how many sherry varieties pop up in conversations around single malts these days: Pedro Ximénez, Oloroso, Fino, and the one that always catches me out: Palo Cortado. 🥃

It is not even a matter of stumbling when saying it aloud. I find I lose the rhythm of it in my head before it even reaches my voice. A small thing that never fails to bring a quiet smile when it resurfaces.

A lot of these quiet details and maturation notes make their way into the studio work and the digital fact cards I assemble.

Is there a whisky or wine term that has always been a bit of a tongue-twister for you as well?
