Wellness Check 10/8/2021

There's a word I see people use a lot and it's ...not a bad word, but it's a word that is often troublesome and over used. In the right context it can mean a lot, but when used wrong it has a negative impact on you and the people you use it with.

That word is "sorry". I hear people apologize for things they have no need to apologize for. Especially concerning is when people apologize for being themselves, or even just existing. Even if you have good intentions, this kind of "sorry" makes you feel like you are less than, like you don't have a right to be here, or that you are just taking up space. You should never feel that you have to apologize for being here, alive, right now sharing your life with people. But by saying sorry you are giving others permission to see you as something that doesn't belong, you start to believe it yourself, and you are worth so much more than that. I want you to delete the word sorry from your vocabulary. It should only be used when someone else has been truly hurt by your actions and not your existence.

As a very kind man used to tell millions of children everyday, "I like you just the way you are." You have nothing to apologize for, and I would prefer you share some of your weirdness instead of pretending to be a normal buttoned up sort, because we all know that's not who you are, and you should not be sorry for who you are.

Stay hydrated, keep dreaming.
