Daily Covid19 Updates & Analysis – 24 July 2020

Globally, it is the 10th consecutive day with over 200,000 daily new cases. To put this in perspective, over the past 10 days, 2.4 million new cases have been discovered. This is higher than Brazil’s tally of total confirmed cases which is the world’s second-highest count for a country.

Total cases in the US surpassed 4 million while South Africa crossed the 400,000 mark. Meanwhile, Russia is on course to breach the 800,000 mark tomorrow. In terms of total deaths, India has now overtaken France to become the world’s fifth worst-hit country.

Peru reported 3,887 deaths in the past 24 hours which also includes reconciled deaths from earlier dates. However, as a result of this corrected data, Peru has leapfrogged Iran in the ninth position with most confirmed Covid-19 deaths worldwide.

In the past 24 hours, the countries that reported their highest single-day jump in new cases include India (49,310), Mexico (8,438), Argentina (5,782), Dominican Republic (1,572), Romania (1,112), Kenya (796), Costa Rica (768) and Palestine (602).In addition, Japan also recorded its highest number of new cases in one day highlighting possibility of a second wave of Coronavirus.
