Water Prairie began as the result of the experiences my husband and I have experienced as our children have grown up with different types of disabilities. We’ve lived in several states during the years when they were younger, and we know firsthand how difficult it is to get connected with the resources you need when you’re trying to parent a child with disabilities. No matter if your child has a medical condition, a physical challenge, or an invisible disability, we want the Water Prairie website and podcast to be a resource you can come to for support and encouragement. I am creating video podcasts of interviews with individuals who have grown up with a disability to show parents the possible path their child might follow. These interviews include information about how the individual accommodated their unique needs during school and advice they want to pass on to parents and children with similar life challenges.
As part of the podcast, I include interviews with organizations and professionals who may be good resources for the families I'm trying to serve. Additional videos include helpful information for parents about the IEP process and other topics of interest for the disability community. I'm sharing the information on Water Prairie at no cost to our listeners, so if you like what I'm providing here, Buy Me a Coffee, and help keep me going! You can also become a member of the Water Prairie Team and Buy Me A Coffee monthly.
Monthly Membership Benefits
Buy Me A Coffee is an opportunity for listeners to become a part of the mission I've set. The cost of conducting the interviews, creating videos, and updating the website involves different types of expenses. By helping to support me, you’ll allow me to purchase up-to-date equipment to make the editing process take less time, to travel to locations for interviews, to use higher-quality video streaming platforms for high-quality video and audio recording, and to provide the income needed to support the hours it takes to run Water Prairie as a business. I've set up 2 different monthly options with different benefits for each tier. The SUPPORTER membership tier gives you access to some free products being offered under the SHOP tab. These products are also available for sale on my Etsy shop.
The ADVOCATE membership tier includes the same options as the SUPPORTER membership. It also includes a monthly private livestream event where I, or special guests I invite, will teach about specific topics on how parents can advocate for their children in their school and community. These skills will be lifelong skills that parents will use to support their children and come from my own experiences of raising my children. My guide for topics I will be covering during the livestream events will be the skills I wish I had known sooner as I learned to advocate for my children. ADVOCATE members will have opportunities to submit questions for the monthly events.
