Greetings, fellow War Yankees and Civil War History Buffs!
Yes! Your ears do not deceive you! I DID drop a new episode (WY #16 - Tunnel Vision) last week with more to come.
What happened to War Yankee? Well, life is what happens when you're making other plans. I had family to tend to, a career to manage, and some new experiments to try. I also built my own podcast hosting platform called Oncetold (oncetold.com), which now runs all of my podcasts. So, in other words, I was a bit distracted.
During my two-year hiatus (geesh), I was able to visit Shilo in Tennessee, Vicksburg and Natchez in Mississippi, Fort Gaines in Alabama, and the Chalmette National Cemetery in New Orleans, Louisiana -- many of the locations connected to Grant's Vicksburg Campaign of 1863.
However, all roads keep leading me back to the Overland Campaign and my unfinished podcast. Little did I know how involved this project would become when I first started it. And, just when I think I've taken on too much, I read something that inspires me to come back to the microphone.
I very much appreciated you're patience with my absence and greatly appreciated you listening to the podcast. I reorganized my release schedule to include "Season 1: Hostile Country" as episodes #1-10 (to include the bonus episodes #1-4), while I plan on completing "Season 2: Choke Point" episodes #17-20 by October 2025. That should get us through the first part of Saunders Field.
Then, in November 2025, I will start "Season 3: Crossroads" episode #21 as Sedgwick's Sixth Corps finally shows up and we enter the fiery night and early morning of May 6th, 1864. I wanted Season 3 to end with "On to Richmond", but not unlike the Union Army of the Potomac at Saunders Field, I didn't expect there to be so many interesting parts to this story. This most likely means that Season 4 will become the conclusion of the Battle of the Wilderness and shift us down the Brock Road to Spotsylvania Courthouse.
If it takes me four seasons and 40 episodes to reach the Blood Angle, then so be it! That's my plan for 2025. Expect to hear four new episodes between now and October (Season 2: Choke Point Episodes #17-20) and the start of a new season (Season 3: Crossroads) that will feature episodes #21-30 going into 2026.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your interest in this project, your feedback, and your support! The numerous emails and positive reviews helped me get "back on the horse". I look forward to you joining me along the way!
Cheers!
Kyle
