Day One

Firm Foundation

Architects know that for a building to stand it must first have a good foundation. This means digging down to the bedrock and supporting the weight by laying strong footings. Only then can a successful structure be built.

Your Christian life is like that tower. God laid the foundation when you gave your life to Him. Since that time, every bit of knowledge, every prayer, every verse has laid down the walls. When you obeyed Him and showed His love to others, the walls took shape.

Slowly they rose, strong on the cornerstone of your faith and held together by God. Those walls keep the enemy away; they cannot be broken down or shaken. You can take a brave stand in your relationships with others. Share what you know about the Lord and what He has done in your life. Don’t be afraid of standing strong when the world mocks you. He is the firm foundation.

Do you feel God’s strength when you are afraid? Do you remember a time when His power was working through you?

Day Two

External Confidence

Confidence can be defined in two ways. One is from within—we feel self-assured by our ability. The other is external—we believe we can rely on someone to do what they said they would.

We cannot be brave without confidence, but the confidence we need does not come from the first definition. It is not wise to conjure up feelings of bravery through self-assurance of our own abilities, for they inevitability will fail us.

To succeed in life, our confidence must come from a firm trust in Jesus Christ, what He did for us on the cross, and how He continues to intercede for us. Our confidence does not come from our own power, but from Christ-given power. Walk into every situation today knowing that you have immediate VIP access to the throne of God, and there is an abundant warehouse of grace and mercy waiting for you.

What self-assurance do you need to trade for God’s assurance today?

Day Three

Embracing Weakness

Do you ever find yourself suddenly aware of your own glaring weaknesses? Aware that, if left up to your own good works, you wouldn’t stand a chance of attaining salvation? We should find great comfort in the fact that we are nothing without salvation in Christ Jesus.

Thankfully God made a way for us to be united with Him, despite impatience, selfishness, anger, and pride. God deeply cares for us and patiently sustains us with steady, faithful, and adoring love. Amazingly His love even goes beyond this to embrace and transform our weakness when we yield it to Him.

Weakness isn’t something to be feared or hidden; weakness submitted to God allows the power of Christ to work in and through us. When we know our weakness, we are more aware of our need for His strength. When we put ourselves in a position of humility and ask Him to be strong where we are weak, He is delighted to help.

How can you submit your weakness to God so that, through Him, you can be strong?

Day Four

Choose Joy

Everyone experiences deep sadness and disappointment in life. Sometimes it may seem your life is full of them. You can’t catch a break. Take heart when you experience trials and nothing goes your way.

In the Bible, joy is mentioned over 250 times. When you feel broken, you can choose joy—the joy of the Lord—and it will be the strength you need. When all happiness is taken from you, choose the joy of the Lord! When you are hurting, look to the joy of the Lord and bravely move in another direction. Choose joy—the strength you need to repair a broken spirit.

Can you see how helping others might bring you joy? Can you see past your own circumstances to be a blessing to someone with a broken spirit?

Day Five

A Steady Heart

God has asked you to do a specific thing. As you begin to put the legwork behind the calling He has given you, you cannot expect the road to be without opposition.

Whatever it may be the end is the same—it’s all for the glory of God. In moving toward what God wants you to do, the forces of darkness will move back.

Can you steady your heart when people whisper behind your back or criticize your actions? Can you steady your heart when you fail along the way? Can you steady your heart when others fail you?

Our hearts can be firm as a rock when we trust that God is working and moving on our behalf.

If He has placed something on your heart today, don’t let fear of what could happen get in your way. Step out in faith and anchor your heart in the Lord.

What “what-if” scenarios do you need to silence and bring before God today?

Day Six

Love Covers

Love is what sets us apart from the world. We identify with Jesus because of love. Often love is not earned or deserved; it is given. Love can be very difficult and requires all our strength.

When we love others deeply, there is no room for sin to fester and cause bitterness. We can forgive sins, focus forward, mend relationships, and leave injustice in the capable hands of Christ. This is not easy, but with love it is possible. The love God shows us stands is a direct contrast to the love media and the world tries to sell. It is a love that is not tainted by sin. We can choose to cover sin with love, as God does for us.

Is there someone in your life you are striving to love? Is unforgiveness or bitterness impeding you?

Day Seven

Slaying the Giants

Remember the Bible story of the shepherd boy David and the Philistine giant Goliath? Goliath had been taunting the Israelites for forty days, daring someone to come fight him. To say that the Israelites were stressed was an understatement. Goliath was huge and terrifying, and nobody was brave enough to fight him except that shepherd boy who gathered five smooth stones from the stream.

We all have giants in our lives. Our giants are real and they can rock our world, stressing us to the limit. In those moments, we need to remember what that shepherd boy did: he was going to face the giant armed with God. That’s where our power lies. Giants stress us, but God fights our battles. The next time you’re weighed down with stress over situations that you can’t fix, go to the One who can. Then go out with His strength and watch as He conquers the situations that stress and worry you.

What do you think gave David the courage to stand up to the giant when others didn’t?
